UCI Applied Innovation jumpstarted football season with Startup Scrimmage at the Cove @ UCI Applied Innovation. The recurring event, sponsored by Digital Networks Group and NEC Corporation of America, combines Monday Night Football displayed on the Cove’s 110-foot Hiperwall screen with pitches from UCI Applied Innovation startups at halftime.

Open to the public, the innovative twist on football also features networking opportunities for startups and the local community.

“It was a comfortable and fun environment that made it easy to network and get to know more entrepreneurs and members in the Orange County area,” said Christian Rowe, business and development manager at Immerse.

During each game’s halftime, startups pitched their ideas and companies as well as answered the audience’s questions. They also showcased their products and networked with guests at demo tables set up outside of the Beach.

During the first game’s halftime, OpsGuru, a health clinic management system that aims to improve clinical efficiency, started off the pitch series. They were followed by Immerse, an online language tutoring software. The evening’s second game kicked off pitches by Alcazar, a property data and real estate analytics software, and DocBot, a real-time artificial intelligence tool for medical procedures.
