Irvine, Calif., August 20, 2019–UC Irvine (UCI) Beall Applied Innovation has named David Tiemeier the managing director for the Research Translation Group (RTG), effective September 3. He will report directly to Richard Sudek, Applied Innovation’s executive director and chief innovation officer at UCI.
In this role, Tiemeier will lead RTG and build robust relationships with companies to facilitate and promote the use of UCI research while driving forward the translation and commercialization of UCI intellectual property.
Tiemeier brings with him extensive experience in scientific research, business development and building high-performance teams within academic, biotech and Big Pharma environments.
Throughout his career, he has been a tireless support of entrepreneurship and his roles have reflected his desire to stimulate innovation. This includes his role as the deputy director for the Office of Technology and Intellectual Property at the University of Chicago, where he led the project management team responsible for faculty relations and technology transfer and co-founded the University’s original Innovation Fund. From there, Tiemeier moved on to become the senior director for Innovation and New Ventures at Northwestern University. Here he focused on devising and managing research investment agreements, which preserved faculty and institutional control and helped create a pilot process to prioritize inventions in therapeutics, medical devices and the physical sciences.
Most recently, Tiemeier honed his skills as the founder and president of Centripetal Force, LLC, a company dedicated to developing and applying innovative strategies to address and resolve scientific and societal issues.
