With the giving season in full swing, now is the perfect time to consider supporting startups that give back and focus on helping the surrounding community. UCI Beall Applied Innovation’s Wayfinder program features a number of such companies. These startups increase revenue to charities, provide affordable legal counsel and build sustainable housing through resourceful solutions. Read on to learn more about their philanthropic efforts:
1. CarDana
CarDana uses artificial intelligence and web-based technologies to make the car donation process more efficient and effective. Car donations generate millions of dollars in revenue per year and CarDana’s goal is to bring more of those funds to the charitable sector through increased transparency in the donation process.
2. Proboknow and Lowboknow
Proboknow and Lowboknow provide free or reduced-priced legal services to individuals in need. Additionally, their services give new and transitioning attorneys experience and allow more seasoned attorneys to act as mentors.
3. Bottle Built
Established by interdisciplinary students at UC Irvine, Bottle Built transforms plastic waste into building materials to ultimately create affordable housing. The early-stage startup has been in contact with local governments and a Los Angeles-based charity to help solve the housing crisis and alleviate pollution by repurposing plastics.
