Rapid Application Development 10 Times Faster

Just in time for the holidays, Siemens Digital Industries Software – a business unit of Siemens, the automation and digitalization company – came to the Cove @ UCI to announce their gift of Mendix software to UC Irvine (UCI).

With free access to Mendix, a low-code/no-code application development platform hosted on Amazon Web Services, UCI students, staff and faculty can build mobile and web applications 10 times faster and with 70 percent fewer resources compared to conventional application development, according to Siemens.

There to announce the launch of the Mendix software was Raj Khoshoo, senior vice president of Portfolio Management at Siemens Digital Industries Software.

“[Mendix is] the leading low-code platform to create, integrate, deploy, manage and iterate modern business applications at scale,” said Khoshoo.

Mendix, which has been in business since 2005, was acquired by Siemens in 2018 for over $700 million. Since then, the two have amplified Mendix’s efforts to help enterprises innovate through information technology and simplify custom software development. Numerous companies and organizations have used the Mendix to create personalized software solutions, with Mendix boasting over 100,000 applications built on their platform.

With the gift of Mendix to UCI, everyone from students to staff and faculty can build and deploy custom software solutions to address their needs – from simple projects to vastly complex enterprise applications. And, this gift comes with support from the Mendix University team that provides consultations, curriculum material and faculty training opportunities. Whether it’s an IT ticketing system, an event check-in system or a class project, it can be built on the Mendix platform.

In addition to providing the software free of charge for UCI users, Mendix offers three levels of certification – Rapid, Advanced and Expert – which can both bolster development skills and open new career pathways in the rapid development of mobile applications.

UCI users can start their first Mendix project now.
