UCI Beall Applied Innovation’s internal magazine, Rising Tide, has received the Platinum Award in the “Print Media Magazine for Educational Institution” category for the MarCom Awards Competition, an international competition for communications professionals. The Platinum Award is the highest category awarded for the MarCom Awards Competition.

“Our Marketing/Communications team is proud to receive the Platinum Award for Rising Tide magazine. Despite the obstacles imposed by COVID-19, our writers, designers and photographers adjusted swiftly to the new limitations and came up with creative solutions to continue to produce Rising Tide while upholding the publication’s quality,” said Julie Kennedy, design director of Rising Tide magazine. “It is both exciting and encouraging that we have been honored with this great award.”

MarCom Awards recognize the achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of marketing and communication materials and programs. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.

Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. Winners are selected in Print, Web, Video, and Strategic Communications categories.

Launched in January 2019, Rising Tide magazine shares stories about UC Irvine’s innovations, startup companies, faculty researchers and commercially promising technologies. Rising Tide helps communicate Applied Innovation’s mission of supporting and encouraging entrepreneurs and innovators within both the UCI and Orange County communities by highlighting breakthrough discoveries and success stories, as well as providing resources and events to those communities.

In November 2019, Rising Tide magazine also received the MarCom Gold Award for “Print Media Magazine for Educational Institution.”
