Wayfinder startup VolunteerCrowd recently announced a strategic partnership with myKlovr, a virtual college and career counseling platform, to reach more students seeking volunteer opportunities.

VolunteerCrowd’s online service and mobile app allows students to find, request and track academic-related volunteer projects to help build a service transcript to impress colleges and employers.

myKlovr uses artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to provide users with personalized college and career advice and gathers resources to empower individuals to reach their fullest academic, technical or vocational potential. As part of this service, myKlovr connects students to relevant college programs, helps them find their academic interests and provides a personalized plan to give each student the best chance at admission into their school of choice.

With the new partnership, myKlovr users will have access to VolunteerCrowd’s virtual volunteering platform, enabling more students to find opportunities. As students volunteer, they develop character strengths, which will positively impact their college applications, higher education and employment success.

“As a parent assisting my children with the college admissions process, I am familiar with the struggle associated with college admissions during COVID-19. Not being able to tour campuses, participate in extracurricular activities, and apply to college using traditional metrics adds a tremendous amount of stress and uncertainty for families navigating the college application process,” said Jamie Finch, chief business development officer of myKlovr, in a press release. “myKlovr is pleased to provide additional functionality to make students successful during the pandemic and beyond.”

The partnership comes at a time when in-person volunteer opportunities are hard to come by and when admissions offices are taking extracurriculars and community service into consideration more than in recent years.

“Service-learning reflects decades-old practices. Students volunteer with clubs or schools, keep separate records for each, and self-report unverified hours on their college app,” said Amy von Kaenel, founder and CEO of VolunteerCrowd. “COVID-19 and the ACT-SAT test-optional trend renewed interest in holistic admissions, opening the door for students to shine in different ways. With VolunteerCrowd, students can engage virtually online or in socially-distant volunteer projects related to their future college majors or careers. Our students’ service portfolios reflect their academic curiosity, community impact, and character development.”
