NarrA.I.tive is UC Irvine’s bold new initiative at the intersection of technology, creativity, and ethics. Through interdisciplinary research, industry partnerships, and hands-on tools, it aims to reshape the way stories are told—and who gets to tell them. NarrA.I.tive is storytelling reimagined for the AI age.
What Drives Us
At the heart of NarrA.I.tive is a belief that AI can serve human creativity—not replace it. These guiding ideas shape what we plan to build and why:
- Preserve Human Insight
We believe AI can be used to capture and share personal and generational wisdom. From first-year students to World War II veterans, we want to transform lived experience into lasting legacy.
- Translate Research into Story
Groundbreaking research shouldn’t gather dust. NarrA.I.tive is exploring ways to turn academic insights into compelling, shareable narratives that engage and inspire.
- Make Learning Personal
We see AI as a tool to transform education by bringing narrative, empathy, and adaptability to how we teach and learn. The goal: classrooms that are more engaging and relevant.

An interdisciplinary undergraduate program combining computer science, ethics, and the humanities to prepare students to shape the future of digital media.
Funding for early-stage UC Irvine researcher projects that use AI and storytelling in novel ways. This includes support for prototypes, audience testing, and real-world application.
Hands-on learning sessions with emerging AI tools—designed to spark ideas, grow skills, and create unexpected collaborations.
